Senators GM Staios Says Captain Tkachuk Asked for a Trade Out of Ottawa
The deal gives Ottawa four draft picks and several million dollars in salary-cap space as Brady Tkachuk joins his brother in Florida.
On Sunday, The Ottawa Senators traded their captain, Brady Tkachuk, to the Florida Panthers in exchange for four draft picks.
During his eight-season run, Tkachuk scored 213 goals in 572 games while accumulating 821 penalty minutes and leading Ottawa to first-round playoff exits in 2025 and 2026.
The return includes the ninth overall selection, Tampa Bay's 25th-overall pick this year, the Panthers' 2027 second-round pick, and a top 10-protected 2029 first-round pick.
Tkachuk joins his brother Matthew in Sunrise, Fla., following their gold-medal win for the U.S. at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics and 2025 4 Nations Face-Off participation.
Senators President and General Manager Steve Staios confirmed the deal clears salary cap space while maintaining stars like Tim and Jake Sanderson as the core.
