Boy airlifted to trauma centre after being hit by falling tree near Oshawa school
Police said 10 people lifted the branch off the child, who regained consciousness before being flown to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
On Thursday, a boy younger than 12 was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre after a tree branch struck him during recess at Monsignor Philip Coffey Catholic School in Oshawa, Ontario.
Acting Sgt. Gluckstein said a severe storm with high winds Wednesday night likely caused the branch to break, though investigators are examining whether maintenance neglect contributed.
It took about 10 people to lift the heavy branch off the student, who was initially without vital signs before first responders restored consciousness at the scene.
Air Ornge transported the child to a trauma centre in serious condition, while police officers escorted both parents to the hospital to be with their son.
The Durham Catholic District School Board is providing support for students and staff while police continue investigating the area near Oxford Street and Dwight Avenue.
