Six-Year-Old Boy Kills Newborn in Maternity Ward After Being Seen Wandering Hospital

Last Friday at Jeanne-de-Flandre Children's Hospital in Lille, a six-year-old boy allegedly dropped newborn Zayneb-Cassandra, causing her death from a traumatic brain injury, and she was pronounced dead on Tuesday.
Amid concerns over supervision, the six-year-old was discovered alone in the neonatal unit after being described as a `disruptive presence`, roaming the maternity ward unsupervised.
The hospital initiated an internal administrative investigation and investigators said `treated the baby like a doll`, after authorities opened a criminal investigation with the Lille Judicial Police juvenile unit.
A spokesman for Lille prosecutors said, 'Investigations are currently underway in this case,' and a hospital spokesman added it 'deeply affected the staff and teams'.
Earlier this month, the infant was born at 7.5 months to a 23-year-old woman, less than a week before her death from a traumatic brain injury.
