BOSTON TOW TUGBOAT TEAMSTERS WIN STRIKE
The deal gives workers improved wages, better conditions and company-paid health insurance as Sail Boston prepares for 50 tall ships.
On Wednesday, Teamsters Local 25 members at Boston Towing and Transportation Company ratified a new contract, ending their eight-day strike. The agreement covers engineers, mechanics, and operators who guide vessels into Boston Harbor.
Union members maintained picket lines 24 hours a day throughout last week's heat wave and the Fourth of July holiday. Tom Mari, President of Local 25, credited the workers' unity for the victory.
Reinauer Transportation confirmed the agreement, which includes 100 percent employer-paid health insurance and improved wages. No further financial details were made public regarding the new contract.
Sail Boston organizers avoid potential disruptions as Boston Tow tugboats return to service, ensuring the maritime festival featuring more than 50 large ships can proceed. Tugboats will guide vessels into the harbor.
With the strike resolved, event preparations continue for Saturday's ship arrivals. Skenderian, a spokesperson for the event, stated organizers remained "all systems go" throughout the negotiations.
