Borno govt reintegrates 3,762 repentant insurgents, family members
- The Borno State Government released 720 men, 992 spouses, and 2,050 children during a ceremony at the Hajj Camp in Maiduguri under its Borno Model reintegration initiative.
- Special Adviser to Governor Babagana Zulum on Security, retired Brigadier General Abdullahi Ishaq, described the initiative as a non-kinetic approach to consolidate peace in the North-East.
- Participants completed structured rehabilitation including religious education and counseling, with vocational training in carpentry and solar installation; female beneficiaries received starter packs for soap making and catering.
- Permanent Secretary Babagana Kadai, representing Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, said the program reflects the government's commitment to restoring peace and social cohesion.
- Since July 2021, more than 9,600 people have been reintegrated through the programme, with beneficiaries drawn from Bama, Gwoza, Damboa, Mafa, Dikwa, Marte, Monguno, and Kukawa.
