All clear after bomb threats at two Orthodox Jewish schools in Brooklyn, NYPD says

Emergency units and K9s searched both schools and found no explosives, and police are investigating whether the calls are linked to earlier threats.

  • On Friday, two Brooklyn Yeshivahs were evacuated after receiving bomb threats minutes apart. The New York Police Department searched the Yeshivah of Flatbush and the United Talmudical Academy in Williamsburg, reporting no threat found.
  • These incidents follow three other bomb threats at schools earlier this week, leaving communities across Brooklyn on edge. The Anti-Defamation League noted similar threats at a Lakewood, New Jersey, Orthodox synagogue recently.
  • NYPD Emergency Service Units and K-9 teams responded to the Flatbush school at 1609 Ave. J and the Williamsburg site at 590 Bedford Ave. Authorities ultimately deemed both threats unfounded.
  • State Assemblyman Michael Novakhov stated, "I know how frightening this was for students and their families." Students and staff safely returned to their classrooms following the emergency response.
  • Moshe Spern, president of United Jewish Teachers, linked the timing to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's Oct. 7 statement, while police continue investigating the origin of the calls.
