ARCHIVES - The Netflix series "The bombing of the Pan Am 103 flight" goes back precisely to the Lockerbie bombing, which killed 243 passengers, 16 crew members and 11 people on the ground. Paris Match covered this tragedy.
On 21 December 1988, a U.S. Pan Am Boeing 747 made regular flight 103 covering a route between Frankfurt and Detroit was the target of a terrorist attack that caused the aircraft to explode in the air shortly after taking off from a first stopover in London by dropping its remains over the Scottish city of Lockerbie and causing the deaths of 259 people travelling on the aircraft in addition to 11 others on the ground.
