Body Pulled From Water Near Miller Road Park Boat Launch After Vessel Capsizes in Avon Lake

A 65-year-old man drowned after his boat overturned about one mile offshore early Wednesday near the Miller Road Park area in Avon Lake.
The Avon Lake Fire Department was alerted just before 10 a.m. about a capsized boat and coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard and dive teams to conduct a search of the area.
Rescue personnel discovered the man submerged beneath the overturned boat at 10:17 a.m., brought him ashore within 20 minutes, and declared him deceased at the location, noting that he had no life jacket on.
Authorities have not confirmed the man's identity and state that the cause of the capsizing remains unknown, with investigations led by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Sheffield Lake Police, and Lorain County Coroner's Office.
After initially closing the boat launch at Miller Road Park following the incident, officials have since reopened the facility and reminded the public to practice safe boating habits, such as not boating solo and always wearing life jackets.
