Body of 12-Year-Old Boy Found in River Ribble After Police Search
Police recovered a body after a 12-year-old boy got into difficulty while swimming, and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A 12-year-old boy died after getting into difficulty while swimming in the River Ribble at Ribchester on Tuesday, with Lancashire Police recovering a body from the river at around 7.50pm following a large-scale search operation.
The boy was reported missing after he encountered difficulty while swimming with friends, prompting emergency services to be called at 2.06pm on May 26 following a report of concern for safety.
Specialist underwater search teams, helicopters, drones, and an air ambulance were deployed by Lancashire Police's underwater search unit, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, and North West Ambulance Service to search the Ribchester area throughout the evening.
The boy's family is being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, with Lancashire Police confirming the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course.
Formal identification of the recovered body is yet to take place, though Lancashire Police believe it to be the missing boy, with identification procedures pending before the file proceeds to HM Coroner.
