2 Brothers Found Dead After Falling Into Water on Rhode Island Coast | News Channel 3-12
LITTLE COMPTON, RHODE ISLAND, JUL 14 – The brothers drowned after one fell into the water and the other tried to save him, with their bodies recovered by rescue teams after a multi-hour search, officials said.
- Valdir A. Centeio, 31, and Aldino A. Centeio, 27, two brothers from Stoughton, Massachusetts, were found deceased in the waters near Little Compton, Rhode Island, following a fishing accident on Saturday morning.
- One brother ended up in the water near Warren's Point Beach Club, prompting the second brother to dive in to rescue him, while a third man also entered the water but was unable to reach them.
- Rescue teams, with support from the U.S. Coast Guard, conducted search operations for over six hours on Saturday before pausing overnight and continuing the effort Sunday morning, ultimately locating the bodies near the area where they disappeared around 11:15 a.m.
- Witness Bill Lancaster described seeing a man yelling and waving on a rock in distress, and officials confirmed the brothers' bodies were recovered and taken by the Rhode Island State Medical Examiner's Office.
- The coroner opened an inquest into the deaths and adjourned it to a later date, while the family expressed heartbreak and paid tribute calling Valdir and Aldino kind, caring, and loving.
