Bob Vylan Say They Are Taking Legal Action Against BBC
The band says the broadcaster misrepresented its Glastonbury set and caused career fallout after the BBC called the chants anti-Semitic.
On Friday, punk duo Bob Vylan confirmed they are taking legal action against the BBC in the Irish High Court, claiming the broadcaster attempted to "silence" those opposing actions in Palestine following their 2025 Glastonbury Festival performance.
During their set on the West Holts Stage, frontman Bobby Vylan led chants of "free, free Palestine" and "death, death to the IDF," which the BBC subsequently described as "antisemitic" and "utterly unacceptable."
Avon and Somerset Police investigated the performance for months before dropping the probe in December, citing insufficient evidence for prosecution; the fallout saw the group lose their agent and face removal from Manchester's Radar Festival.
Represented by the same Belfast-based solicitor who helped Kneecap successfully challenge the UK government, the duo argues the BBC "wasted no time" imposing labels; a BBC spokesperson stated the broadcaster does "not intend to comment on ongoing legal proceedings."
The band's statement accuses the corporation of editing speeches and blocking documentaries that challenge the broadcaster's "desired narrative," concluding with a call for "Justice for the Filton 25" to challenge BBC editorial standards.
