Bob Brooks wins Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District
Brooks won with about 41% of the vote, setting up a fall matchup in a district seen as a key House battleground.
On Tuesday, firefighter union leader Bob Brooks won the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District, besting a crowded field to secure the party's nomination.
In November, Brooks will face incumbent Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, who flipped the competitive 7th District in 2024 by around one percentage point in a seat President Donald Trump carried by around 8 points.
A Bethlehem firefighter for 20 years, Brooks leads the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association and has secured endorsements from the International Association of Firefighters and Teamsters Local 773.
Targeting the status quo, Brooks called Washington a "dumpster fire" while advocating for term limits as the district has already drawn more than $11 million in advertising spending.
Democrats need to net three seats nationwide to regain control of the House, making this Pennsylvania race one of several critical contests that will determine the chamber's balance.
