Floating Nuclear Startup Bluecore Lands $50M Funding Before Setting Sail

The round was led by Silverton Partners and will fund product development, regulatory work, nuclear fuel purchases and hiring.

  • On Tuesday, Bluecore Energy announced an oversubscribed $50 million seed round to fund product development and regulatory approval of its floating nuclear power plants for coastal infrastructure.
  • CEO Kofi Asante founded the California-based company earlier this year to build small nuclear reactors on floating barges, generating about 10 MWe to deliver zero-emission power to ports and energy-intensive coastal locations.
  • Silverton Partners led the seed round, which includes capital from Hartbeat Ventures and angel investors from SpaceX, Tesla, Toyota, and Rivian, bringing industry expertise in supply chain and hardware sourcing.
  • Bluecore is undergoing design review with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Coast Guard to certify its floating power plant, as the two agencies recently signed a memorandum of understanding to coordinate civilian maritime nuclear oversight.
  • Targeting AI datacenters and remote coastal settlements, the startup faces supply chain challenges while navigating California's restrictions on new nuclear plants. "Our focus now is simple: create and deliver zero-emission energy as safely and quickly as possible," Asante said.
