"Coudn't Be Prouder" - Kevin Gausman's Wife Taylor Reacts to the Blue Jays Pitcher's Historic Night at Rogers Centre
Gausman became the 90th pitcher in MLB history to reach 2,000 strikeouts, but he allowed seven runs in Toronto's 8-5 loss.
On Monday, Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman reached his 2,000th career strikeout, fanning Tampa Bay Rays catcher Hunter Feduccia in the fourth inning at Rogers Centre.
Gausman became the 90th pitcher in Major League Baseball history to record 2,000 strikeouts, joining an exclusive group of just 91 players who have achieved this benchmark in the sport's history.
He joins five other active pitchers on the 2,000-strikeout list: Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Chris Sale, Gerrit Cole, and Yu Darvish, making Gausman the sixth active pitcher to reach the milestone.
Despite the milestone, Gausman took the loss as the Blue Jays fell 8-5 to the Rays, allowing six earned runs in his worst outing of the season.
Manager John Schneider praised Gausman's "consistency, durability and performance," while Gausman joked he was glad to reach 2,000 before Scherzer hits 3,500 strikeouts on his Hall of Fame trajectory.
