French lessons on authoritarianism and solidarity: The lycée student blockades
Students across France are on strike and mobilising in the street to demand their right to quality education, linking up wih striking public sector workers, writes Sarah Glynn, in a lesson in solidarity for us all.
On Friday, 2 October, violent actions in the settlements increased and 65 staff members were injured throughout the territory, including 40 principals. Police officers also count their wounded and now express their ras-le-bol. They are waiting for the order to "really contact" against the ultra-left groups.
After a meeting with the Minister of Education, representatives of the school protests distance themselves from violence. Pupils and trade unions want to continue the protests.
Hundreds of schools continue to be affected by the protests, which have in several places ended in violence and vandalism.
RECIT - While high school mobilizations began in the working-class neighbourhoods of the Paris suburbs, the movement then spread throughout the country, and up to some highly favoured settlements in the city centres.
The high school protest movement that has swarmed over the last few days in France focuses in particular on the state of the school building. Insalubriity, lack of equipment, thermal passageways... Students describe sometimes unworthy working conditions.
