Bloc Québécois MP Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay confirms switch to Parti Québécois
He will sit as an Independent until the summer break before seeking the Parti Québécois nomination in his home riding.
On Friday, Bloc MP Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay confirmed he will resign his seat in the House to run for the Parti Québécois in the fall provincial election.
Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet and PQ Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon signaled unity in St-Hyacinthe, Que., despite recent tensions over Blanchet's cooperation with Prime Minister Mark Carney on trade.
Representing St-Hyacinthe-Bagot-Acton since 2019, Savard-Tremblay says his time in Ottawa convinced him that Quebec's interests are often sidelined despite the efforts of Bloc MPs.
He will sit as an Independent for the remainder of the federal session before resigning at the start of the summer break to seek the provincial nomination.
The public appearance by the two leaders in St-Hyacinthe showed the two sovereigntist parties are coming together, marking a strategic alignment ahead of the fall provincial election.
