Blaze breaks out at London tower block as multiple fire crews dispatched
Around 70 firefighters brought the blaze under control after a woman, a child and about 50 residents evacuated the tower block.
- On Saturday, a woman and one child escaped a fire in a 17th-floor flat at a 22-storey tower block in Poplar, London, before emergency crews arrived.
- The London Fire Brigade received a 999 call at 0435 and dispatched ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters to Blackwall Way in response.
- Before the brigade arrived, fifty other residents evacuated the building and are currently staying at a rest centre following the emergency.
- Damage was contained to half of the flat and balcony, and The Brigade confirmed the fire was "under control" by 06:40.
- An investigation is now underway into the cause of the fire at the tower block, situated across the Thames from a major London landmark.
