Blast outside a Syrian defense ministry building kills a soldier, wounds 12 people
A military unit found an explosive device near the ministry before a car bomb detonated, leaving at least 21 wounded, officials said.

- Soldiers had discovered a separate bomb ready to detonate in the Bab Sharqi district and were attempting to dismantle it when the car exploded nearby, the Defense Ministry said.
- Emergency and ambulance teams from the Syrian State health ministry responded to the explosion, transferring the 12 wounded to nearby hospitals for ongoing treatment and monitoring.
- No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack; however, similar strikes have been attributed to the Islamic State in past incidents.
- The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for such attacks since the Assad family was removed from power in December 2024, ending five decades of rule in Syria.
