Blakeman Taps Madison County Sheriff as His Running Mate in Race for Governor
Blakeman chose Hood to strengthen his law-and-order platform, adding Upstate representation with a sheriff who won reelection with over 83% of the vote, officials said.
- On Monday, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman named Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood as his lieutenant governor running mate at the New York State Republican Convention.
- Following a Saturday request, Giardino emailed and texted his decision late Sunday and Monday, saying he could not campaign 24/7 while serving as sheriff.
- With experience across local and regional agencies, Hood has served as Madison County Sheriff since 2018, reelected with over 83 percent in November, and holds leadership roles in state and national sheriff organizations.
- Blakeman framed the pick as a public-safety choice and said `My running mate, Sheriff Todd Hood, has spent his career protecting communities`, shortly after Trump endorsed him, but he trails Hochul in polls and fundraising.
- Republicans meet this week in Garden City for a convention through Wednesday, ahead of the June 23 New York primary and Nov. 3 general election, as Democrats named Gov. Kathy Hochul’s running mate earlier this month.
