North Dakota St. Beats Air Force 38-32, Win First Mountain West Conference Game
Nathan Hayes passed for 228 yards and two touchdowns as the Bison moved to 3-0 and held off a late Air Force rally.
North Dakota State defeated Air Force 38-32 at Falcon Stadium on Saturday, marking the Bison's successful debut in the Mountain West Conference.
Head coach Tim Polasek prepared the Bison for the transition since the FBS announcement, building on the program's Ten-time FCS national championship pedigree as they moved to the FBS.
Quarterback Nathan Hayes threw 228 yards and two touchdowns, while Freshman Myles Mitchell added 61 yards and two scores to power the Bison's offensive attack.
Linebacker Donovan Woolen led the defense with 11 tackles, holding off Air Force's late surge including a 20-yard touchdown pass and a final onside kick attempt.
The Bison advance to 3-0 overall and face Sacramento State on Sept. 19 in California for their next road test.
