Upstate NY Police Chief Placed on Leave; Girlfriend Arrested over Altercation
BROOME COUNTY, NEW YORK, JUL 21 – Susan Rice was charged with endangering a child, trespassing, and harassment after attacking two teenagers, prompting an internal review of Police Chief Joseph Zikuski's role, officials said.
- On July 20, 2025, Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham placed Police Chief Joseph Zikuski on paid administrative leave pending a formal investigation.
- On July 18, 2025, a viral video showed Susan Rice confronting two Black teenagers on a Johnson City porch, then rushing up and assaulting them.
- On July 21, 2025, Susan Rice was arrested at the Johnson City Police department and charged with endangering a child, trespassing, and harassment.
- On July 23, Mayor Jared Kraham retained Attorney Karl J. Sleight to lead the inquiry, while Assistant Chief John C. Ryan assumed duties as acting police chief pending review.
