KGHM Polska Miedź and Australia's South32 are embarking on a $725 million expansion of the Sierra Gorda mine in Chile. The new milling line is expected to increase the plant's processing capacity by a quarter and copper production by approximately 20 percent. The investment is scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.
In the position of the first stone of investment project for US$725 million from Sierra Gorda SCM - headed by SE the President of the Republic-, the owner of Economy and Mining said that “projects of this magnitude build the bridge that we need between the current transition and the expansion cycle that we projected from 2027.”
