Christmas Tree-Raising Kicks Off Biltmore's 130th Holiday Season

Biltmore House held its 130th Banquet Hall tree-raising Wednesday, the final step before Christmas at Biltmore officially opens on Nov. 1.
Planning for this year's display began last year and Biltmore Estate floor manager Lizzie Whitcher said, `Thinking back to where we were a year ago and our monument sign having been rebuilt and new trees planted, it does feel like this Christmas.'
Crews and roughly 40 team members loaded the tree into the Banquet Hall and raised it, then about 10 floral design team members decorated it with about 500 ornaments and lights.
Now that the Banquet Hall tree is in place, there are just two days left to finish touches before Christmas at Biltmore opens Saturday, with officials hoping guests feel inspired.
This year's Banquet Hall centerpiece is a 35-foot Fraser fir supplied by Andrews Nursery in Newland, N.C., weighing 2,500 pounds and sourced from the family-owned Andrews Tree Farm and Nursery.
