Billy Steinberg, legendary songwriter and Palm Springs native, dies at 75

  • On Monday, Billy Steinberg, songwriter, died at his Brentwood home at age 74, his lawyer Laurie Soriano said the cause was cancer.
  • With his longtime partner Tom Kelly, Steinberg co-penned five singles that hit No. on the Billboard Hot 100 during the 1980s, including 'Like a Virgin' which spent six weeks atop Billboard's Hot 100.
  • A Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Steinberg won a Grammy and in last year he signed global publishing deals with Sony Music Publishing with his son Ezra.
  • His survivors include his wife Trina and his sons Ezra and Max, while his songs were recorded by Pat Benatar, Tina Turner, and many other artists.
  • More recently, in the 2010s, Steinberg's songs were cut by Nicole Scherzinger, Miranda Cosgrove and Demi Lovato, reflecting a professional songwriting career spanning more than 30 years.
