Billy Joel’s Motorcycle Collection Coming to NY Auction
The motorcycles will be sold without reserve, with proceeds supporting The Joel Foundation and estimates ranging from $10,000 to $35,000, organizers said.
- Music legend Billy Joel is auctioning more than 70 motorcycles from his personal collection at the inaugural Retromobile New York Auctions, Nov. 19-22, at the Javits Center in New York City.
- Following a health diagnosis last year, Joel decided to close his Oyster Bay shop, 20th Century Cycles, and sell his collection to benefit The Joel Foundation, which supports music education and humanitarian causes.
- Notable lots include a 1978 Triumph T-140 Bonneville gifted by Madison Square Garden, a 1975 Ducati 750 Sport, and a 1982 Ducati Mike Hailwood 900; previews begin Oct. 8 at Christie's Rockefeller Center showroom.
- All motorcycles will be offered without reserve, with estimated values ranging from about $10,000 to $35,000, giving collectors an opportunity to acquire bikes tied to the Grammy-winning musician's storied enthusiasm.
