National Lottery Announces 'Biggest Ever Change' to Draw
The new Lotto format will improve odds to 1-in-4.9 and is expected to more than double annual millionaires, Allwyn said.
- On Tuesday, Operator Allwyn announced major updates to the National Lottery coming this summer, including a two-round format for Lotto and the launch of a UK-specific version of Powerball, the first time the game will be available outside the USA.
- The initiative follows a partnership with the Multi-State Lottery Association, marking the first time a non-USA lottery will contribute to the Powerball jackpot and expanding the game to 49 participating lotteries.
- UK-Specific Powerball tickets will cost £4 per line, while standard Lotto tickets remain £2; the new two-round Lotto structure will apply to every draw on Wednesday and Saturday.
- Allwyn CEO Andria Vidler said the changes aim to double weekly returns to Good Causes to £60 million by 2034, with the new Powerball draw projected to deliver around £1 billion extra over five years.
- Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair, said the partnership benefits all jurisdictions by accelerating jackpot growth, while The National Lottery will undergo standard security and compliance reviews to ensure game integrity.
