Disney+ to Allow Ads on All Plans Following Changes Detailed in Updated Subscriber Agreement
The revised agreement lets Disney+ place promotional content before and after playback on every tier, while Junior Mode stays ad-free.
- Disney updated its Subscriber Agreement last week to allow promotional content and advertisements across all Service Plans, including The Premium tier, ending the platform's promise of completely ad-free viewing.
- When Disney debuted in 2019, it amassed over 10 million subscribers in its first 24 hours with a promise of pristine, uninterrupted viewing; the company now claims Service Plans may include sponsorships and advertisements before and after Content playback.
- While The Premium tier still promises "no ads," the new terms allow promotional clips before and after movies; Junior Mode remains the only exception, as profiles with this experience enabled will not be subjected to commercial ads or sponsor placements.
- Disney is also reducing the notice period for price changes from 30 days to 28 days; Subscribers must accept the new Subscriber Agreement to continue using the platform, as the company retains flexibility to adjust promotional material volume.
- The broader streaming market has moved similarly, with major platforms inserting promotions on higher-priced tiers. With ads creeping into every tier, Subscribers must now decide if The Premium plan at $18.99 monthly in the United States remains worth the cost.
