BHP Announces Rail Transportation Agreements with CN and CPKC to Bring Jansen Potash to Global Customers
The agreements give BHP dual rail access to move Jansen potash through Vancouver and support Stage 1 production for about four years.
On Thursday, BHP Canada Inc signed rail transportation agreements with Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City to move potash from the Jansen Potash Mine in Saskatchewan to Westshore Terminals in Vancouver for global export.
Currently under construction in Saskatchewan, the Jansen Potash Mine is expected to start production by mid-2027, with this dual-access rail model designed to enhance supply chain reliability for international customers.
"This is an exciting step forward as we prepare Jansen for first production," said Karina Gistelinck, Asset President Potash, BHP, noting the initial four-year contracts support Stage 1 output.
Janet Drysdale, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at Canadian National Railway, stated the company is pleased to support BHP's expansion into potash.
Stretching approximately 20,000 miles, the Canadian Pacific Kansas City network provides North American customers extensive market reach, establishing long-term relationships to deliver Canadian potash globally.
