Bhojshala row: SC to hear Muslim side's plea over location of alternative namaz site Thursday
The Muslim side says Madhya Pradesh has not provided a suitable alternate site, with the proposed location 1.3 km away, counsel told the court.
- On Wednesday, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea on Thursday alleging non-compliance with directions to provide an alternative site for Friday prayers near the disputed Bhojshala complex in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.
- The Supreme Court previously directed the Madhya Pradesh state government on July 14 to provide an open space adjacent to the site for Friday namaz between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. until final judgment.
- Senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi argued the current proposal is 1.3 km away and unsuitable, stating, "Your orders are not being complied with. The site is 1.3 km away and the collector has passed an order saying that only this site will be allotted."
- Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the bench the administration identified another location, prompting Chief Justice Surya Kant to ask, "Why don't you give the alternate site details to Mr. Ahmadi?"
- Ahmadi suggested land in front of a nearby dargah as a viable alternative, and the court will review these compliance concerns on Thursday to resolve the dispute.
