Bezzecchi Beats Marquez in Season-Opening Thailand MotoGP Practice

Marco Bezzecchi broke his pre-season track record with a 1:28.526 lap, 0.421 seconds faster than Marc Marquez, who is recovering from a shoulder injury.

  • On Friday, Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia rider, set a new track record in 1 min 28.526 sec, finishing fastest ahead of Marc Marquez at Buriram.
  • Mostly-Dry conditions at Buriram allowed late quick laps despite dark clouds, and Marquez surged up the timesheets with around 20 minutes to go after earlier running and morning pace.
  • Toprak Razgatlioglu, three-time Superbike world champion , finished 21st while VR46's Fabio Di Giannantonio was third, followed by Pedro Acosta, Jorge Martin and Alex Marquez; Martin crashed 10 minutes into the morning and Ai Ogura came off in the afternoon.
  • The practice order has direct implications for Saturday and Sunday's grids as the top 10 fastest riders earn spots in Saturday's second qualifying session, while Francesco Bagnaia's 15th place forces him into the first qualifying session.
  • Marquez begins the weekend as a title favourite, launching a record-equalling eighth world title bid while managing a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the final four races last season and altered his riding style, he said on Thursday.

Marco Bezzecchi led the MotoGP practice of the Grand Prix of Thailand. It was the first day on which everyone was forced to force and the Italian pulverized the best return ever made in Buriram. Marc Marquez was second, but with certain difficulties and without being comfortable -even in the start rehearsals-. Worse went to Bagnaia, who got into trouble having to go to the Q1.
