In the context of the commemoration of the attacks of 11 September 2001 in the United States, Cuba's president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, recalled that the Caribbean island has been the target of such actions for more than 60 years and now faces a "genocidal plan" to surrender for hunger to the people.

In his message, Díaz-Canel stressed that Cuba has been the victim of more than six decades of terrorist attacks, with more than 3 400 dead and 2 099 injured. He also denounced that the island currently faces a “genocidal plan to surrender for hunger to the people,” which he also described as State terrorism.
