Beverley Callard Shares 'It's Not What I Wanted to Hear' in Sad Cancer Update
Doctors say Beverley Callard should have started radiotherapy earlier after her breast cancer diagnosis, and she expects treatment to begin soon.
On Tuesday, actress Beverley Callard shared in a video that doctors informed her radiotherapy should have started sooner, citing delays caused by transferring medical records from England to Ireland following her relocation.
After 30 years on Coronation Street as Liz McDonald, the 69-year-old moved to Ireland with husband Jon McEwan to star in BBC soap Fair City, where she received her early-stage cancer diagnosis in February 2026.
Callard explained medical records took time to transfer after the house move; she has appointments Tuesday with her new surgeon and Thursday with an oncologist to begin radiotherapy soon, though she admitted the news was 'not what I wanted to hear'.
Despite the setback, Callard told supporters at the end of the Bank Holiday weekend she was 'nervous' but ready to begin treatment, stating she is 'full of beans and really going for it'.
Callard first revealed her diagnosis in February on RTE's Late Late Show just 15–20 minutes before filming Fair City, and has continued updating fans throughout her journey, noting she is 'along with thousands of other women' facing similar experiences.
