Boston Bruins Announce Plans to Retire Bergeron's No. 37
Bergeron won a record six Selke Trophies and helped Boston win the 2011 Stanley Cup before his Hall of Fame induction this fall.
On Thursday, the Boston Bruins announced they will retire Patrice Bergeron's No. 37 jersey during the 2026-27 season, making him the 15th player in franchise history to receive this honor.
Bergeron spent his entire 19-year career with the Bruins, recording 427 goals and 1,040 points over 1,294 games while winning a record six Selke Trophies for defensive excellence before retiring in 2023.
Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs called Bergeron "the undeniable greatest defensive forward in the NHL's history," while former co-captain Zdeno Chara, whose No. 33 was retired earlier in 2026, praised Bergeron's leadership influence.
While the team has not yet scheduled the specific ceremony date, Bergeron is eligible for Hockey Hall of Fame consideration, with the Hall expected to announce its newest inductees on Monday.
Bergeron joins a list of franchise legends including Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito as the Bruins, an 'Original Six' organization, continue their storied history of honoring elite performers.
