Thousands of Aussies to Lose Bank Service

AUSTRALIA, JUL 24 – Bendigo Bank cites reduced customer use and rising costs for closing 28 agencies, affecting 2.7 million customers across five Australian states by October 2025.

  • From October 2025, Bendigo Bank will retire its agency model, closing 28 outlets across five states, said the bank.
  • Taso Corolis said changing customer preferences and reduced business activity drove the decision, noting the model was established 30 years ago for low-demand areas.
  • In Taroom, about 470 km west of Brisbane, the agency closure leaves 800 residents reliant on Australia Post, with the next branch two hours away in Mundubbera.
  • Arriving October 16, the Crookwell agency will retire, a move Susan Reynolds called a `slap in the face`.
  • As the fifth-largest ASX-listed bank with the most branches per customer, Bendigo Bank remains committed; Taso Corolis said, `we must prioritise our investments across both physical and digital channels to continue meeting the changing needs and growing expectations of our 2.7 million customers`.
