Dutch coal-fired power plants have already generated more electricity this year than in all of 2024, the Financieele Dagblad reported based on figures from the National Energy Dashboard. Production up to and including August 14, 2026, is still below the whole of 2025, but this will almost certainly also be surpassed.
High demand from abroad and high gas prices are driving coal-fired power production.
