TE VAN A MATAR is set in New York, but was shot in Cape Town, South Africa. Prior to pre-production, screenwriter and director Kirill Sokolov created a storyboard of every frame of the film he hoped to shoot – creating approximately 1200 cartoons – and could even use them during casting, to show potential candidates how the film was imagined. The film takes place, almost entirely, within the Virgil: a residence in New York City.
