Bear killed in Glacier after vehicle, building break-ins
- On June 5, 2025, Glacier National Park officials euthanized a 4-year-old female black bear in West Glacier after it became aggressive and food-conditioned.
- The bear’s food-conditioned behavior escalated sharply in June following numerous efforts to gain access to vehicles and structures on private property, as well as a prior relocation in 2022.
- In 2022, Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks captured the bear in Kalispell and transferred it to an area near Puzzle Creek, located just south of Marias Pass, but the bear eventually returned and continued to display concerning behavior.
- On June 7, a female black bear accompanied by her cub took food from an unattended backpack along Going-to-the-Sun Road, leading park officials to shut down the road north of The Loop later that day.
- Glacier National Park advises visitors to secure food and keep distance from bears to prevent food-conditioning, which leads to euthanasia to protect human safety and property.
