Bear Creek Fire Near Harrison No Longer Wildfire of Note

NEAR HARRISON HOT SPRINGS, BRITISH COLUMBIA, AUG 1 – The wildfire is one of six in the Agassiz-Harrison area, with four human-caused; firefighting crews including 56 personnel work to contain the 124-hectare fire, officials said.

  • On Friday, the Bear Creek wildfire north of Harrison Hot Springs grew from 90 to 124 hectares, remaining at 124 hectares in size.
  • The B.C. Wildfire Service reported dry conditions and strong southerly winds on Thursday fueled the fire’s growth along the north flank.
  • Currently, three helicopters, a skimmer group and two ground crews are responding to the fire, supported by 56 people and three bucket trucks working on steep terrain east of the East Forest Service Road.
  • An evacuation alert remains in the North Cascade Bay Area, while the East Forest Service Road is closed and access to surrounding forest roads is limited.
  • The B.C. Air Quality Index reports a low-risk factor of 1 as of Saturday, with risk expected to rise to 3 by Sunday, and the wildfire of note was removed Saturday morning.
