B.C.’s move to end clock changes won’t be without complications
The new year-round Pacific time ends clock changes but raises sync issues with Mountain time areas and the U.S. border, affecting communities like Cranbrook and Point Roberts.
- On Monday, British Columbia Premier David Eby announced the province will adopt year-round Pacific daylight time, ending biannual clock changes after clocks move forward for a final time on Sunday.
- Because some areas already use Mountain time, including Cranbrook, B.C., East Kootenay local governments are pushing to stay on Mountain time to remain in sync with Alberta year-round.
- In Prince George, winter sunrises will be around 9:30 a.m., and Simon Yu advised 'stock up on Vitamin D and set plenty of alarms.' Many hockey parents already wake at 5 a.m. in darkness.
- Some residents welcomed a final decision, and Cranbrook Mayor Wayne Price said the council was surprised and wants talks 'to see if a change is wanted here and to make sure our approach is co-ordinated.
