BRITISH COLUMBIA, AUG 11 – Evacuations eased as the Kelowna wildfire is contained, while nearly 300 households remain under evacuation orders near Wesley Ridge, with 11 fires still out of control in B.C., officials said.
- The BC Wildfire Service confirmed on Aug. 6, 2025, that two wildfires in British Columbia are now held, though an evacuation order on south-central Vancouver Island remains in place.
- After tactical evacuations, the wildfire service reported all residents evacuated Sunday in the Okanagan wildfire near Kelowna, B.C., can now return home.
- On Vancouver Island, the wildfire service updated the Wesley Ridge blaze as not expected to grow beyond existing control lines, displaying mostly rank-one fire behaviour.
- The wildfire service said crews were improving containment lines along northern, western and eastern flanks, and 257 properties have been removed from evacuation order.
- The wildfire service warned fire behaviour could intensify amid Environment Canada heat warnings, as about 25 active fires near Kelowna are held within their perimeters.
