- Ten minutes prior to spotting the calf, captain Lili pulled derelict fishing gear from the water. She and her 12 guests remained on-site for nearly two hours, monitoring the whales at a distance.
- Fisheries and Oceans Canada led the successful disentanglement working with Cetus Research & Conservation Society and NOAA Fisheries West Coast. The team tracked the whales late into the evening until the gear was removed.
- The DFO advises the public to report entangled whale sightings immediately rather than attempting intervention, as untrained individuals cutting lines or floats can worsen the animal's condition with complex, dangerous work.
