B.C. sets up condolence books to honour Tumbler Ridge victims and support community

British Columbia offers online and in-person condolence books for the eight victims, open for signing until Feb. 20, to support the Tumbler Ridge community.

  • On Feb. 18, 2026, the Province of British Columbia established an online condolence book and a physical book in the Hall of Honour at the B.C. legislature building in Victoria.
  • The Feb. 10 shootings in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, by Jesse Van Rootselaar, 18-year-old perpetrator, prompted a government condolence book for messages of `condolence, support and unity`.
  • The Canadian Red Cross is on site in Tumbler Ridge, working with local authorities as more than $670,000 has been raised through the 2026 Tumbler Ridge Tragedy Appeal.
  • The Province of British Columbia will cover administrative costs for the appeal, while United Way BC and the Northeast BC Community Foundation collect recovery funds and the Canadian Red Cross offers confidential and psychosocial support at redcross.ca/tumblerridge.
  • Both books will be available to sign until Feb. 20, and online messages will be added to the physical book in the legislature; relief groups say support will continue in the weeks and months ahead.
