B.C. man sentenced for role in international meth trafficking scheme
Court documents say Opinder Singh Sian coordinated four meth deliveries totaling 220.7 kilograms in a scheme aimed at Australia.
- On May 13, United States District Judge David Carter sentenced Opinder Singh Sian, 38, to six-and-a-half years in prison for conspiracy to export methamphetamine from Los Angeles to Australia.
- Court records show Sian admitted he "knowingly and intentionally" conspired to export 220.7 kilograms of methamphetamine from the Port of Long Beach, California, to Sydney, Australia between Sept. 27, 2022, and Oct. 22, 2023.
- Court documents allege Sian is an "alleged member of a criminal gang" with links to the Irish organized crime Kinahan family and Italian and Canadian organized crime groups. He coordinated four drug deliveries totaling 220.7 kilograms to a Drug Enforcement Administration informant.
- Judge Carter recommended Sian serve his sentence at FCI Oakdale II, a low-security federal correctional institution in Oakdale, Louisiana. The court ordered $100 in special assessment with fines waived and mandated two years of probation upon release.
- Court records show Sian remains detained at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center despite his sentencing. The Vancouver Sun noted he was also linked to the B.C.-based Brother Keepers gang.
