B.C. Lions roar into Langford with assist for province wildfire program

FireSmart said it invested $17,000 as the Lions expand wildfire-prevention messaging through ads, school visits and game broadcasts.

  • Local efforts are already yielding results, with 2,156 cubic yards of hazardous vegetation removed from green spaces this year, enough to fill more than 180 dump trucks, while over 900 vehicles participated in six free yard waste drop-off events.
  • Minister of Forests and MLA for Langford-Highlands Ravi Parmar noted that 2,400 British Columbians have applied to be wildfire firefighters this year, and "FireSmart works so effectively when you have champions," Langford Fire Chief Chris Aubrey said.
  • FireSmart invested $17,000 in advertising on 730 CKNW and school visits, as Lions senior vice-president of business George Chayka highlighted youth's future role in building a safer community.
