FireSmart said it invested $17,000 as the Lions expand wildfire-prevention messaging through ads, school visits and game broadcasts.
- On Saturday, the B.C. Lions announced a new partnership with FireSmart to amplify wildfire prevention and preparedness messaging across the province.
- Langford's Millstream Elementary School hosted the announcement during the third annual Thetis Heights neighbourhood FireSmart event, where the Lions teamed up with Port Alberni-based aerial firefighting company Coulson Aviation.
- Local efforts are already yielding results, with 2,156 cubic yards of hazardous vegetation removed from green spaces this year, enough to fill more than 180 dump trucks, while over 900 vehicles participated in six free yard waste drop-off events.
- Minister of Forests and MLA for Langford-Highlands Ravi Parmar noted that 2,400 British Columbians have applied to be wildfire firefighters this year, and "FireSmart works so effectively when you have champions," Langford Fire Chief Chris Aubrey said.
- FireSmart invested $17,000 in advertising on 730 CKNW and school visits, as Lions senior vice-president of business George Chayka highlighted youth's future role in building a safer community.
