- The Conservatives are calling on the federal government to "take immediate action" and impose mandatory minimum sentences for organized crime extortion while directing the Immigration and Refugee Board to deport non-citizens convicted of serious crimes.
- Bill C-14, proposing 80 changes to the Criminal Code, is currently before the Senate, while Bill C-16 faces scrutiny over a "safety valve" clause preserving judicial discretion on mandatory minimum sentences.
