B.C. Conservative, NDP leaders rally election support in Vernon
Doerkson drew more than 100 supporters at a distillery, while Eby spoke to about 80 and promoted fuel-tax and grocery price promises.
B.C. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson visited Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery on Friday, Oct. 2, while B.C. NDP leader David Eby arrived Saturday on 30th Avenue to campaign in the tight Vernon-Lumby riding.
Doerkson expressed frustration with the timing of the Oct. 24 snap election, which occurs just a week after local government elections and amid turbulent times for the Official Opposition Conservatives.
At his Saturday event, Eby promised to suspend provincial motor fuel taxes by 10 cents a litre and implement "strict pricing rules" for groceries, blaming Trump's tariff impacts on rising living costs.
Speaking to more than 100 people, Doerkson highlighted his plan to remove the 10 per cent PST from alcohol and pledged a half-billion dollars for wildfire innovation and water bomber purchases.
Lumby mayor Kevin Acton championed the Conservative ticket in Vernon-Lumby, earning Doerkson's praise as "a great representative of civic politics" focused on community priorities in this vital battleground.
