B.C. Civil Forfeiture seeks to seize vehicle linked to Surrey extortion shooting
The claim says CCTV showed muzzle flashes from the Civic during the alleged extortion shooting, and police have not laid charges.
- On June 19, the B.C. director of civil forfeiture filed a claim in Supreme Court to seize a Honda Civic suspected of being an "instrument of unlawful activity" in a Surrey shooting.
- The incident stems from a January 20 shooting in the 7200-block of King George Boulevard, where Surrey Police found gunfire had damaged a business and multiple vehicles, though no injuries were reported.
- Using CCTV footage, police matched the Honda Civic to the shooting and seized it on February 25 after stopping the car in the 9600-block of 129 Street with Damanveer Singh and Taranvir Singh inside.
- The claim alleges the passenger fired "several muzzle flashes" from the car during the extortion-related shooting, asserting Singh either "intended" to engage in unlawful activity or was "willfully blind" to the vehicle's use.
- As of July 2, no charges have been filed regarding the shooting, though Singh or his lawyer must file a response to the civil forfeiture claim within 21 days of being served.
