Popular ITV Series that Aired over Four Decades Being Brought Back After 13 Years
The broadcaster has committed to up to three seasons, and season 1 is expected in late 2027 as the search for a new Poirot begins.
The BBC has secured rights to a major new television series based on Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot novels, committing to up to three seasons with a planned premiere in the second half of 2027.
For 24 years, Sir David Suchet starred as the Belgian detective in the ITV series, which ran across 13 seasons from 1989 to 2013 and became a British television staple before concluding 13 years ago.
Screenwriter Benji Walters has been tapped to pen the new series at Mammoth Screen; sources say he has "breathed new life into the fictional Belgian detective" while casting for the lead role remains underway.
The classic series recently reached new audiences after all 70 episodes landed on Netflix, demonstrating enduring demand for the character who appeared in 33 novels and 51 short stories by Christie.
Future iterations must navigate the legacy left by Kenneth Branagh and John Malkovich, who previously portrayed the detective, as the BBC targets a second-half 2027 launch for season one.
