BBC Radio Tees presenter Dave Llewellyn dies after short illness

BBC Radio Tees presenter Dave Llewellyn died on Friday, May 8, 2026, at age 57 following a short illness, ending his two-decade tenure as the region's traffic and travel voice.
Llewellyn launched his career as the "eye in the sky" in a small plane above Teesside, providing 20 traffic reports hourly from 1,500ft before becoming a producer at BBC Radio Tees.
Producer Sarah Robinson remembered the broadcaster as a cheerful presence, joking about his "terrible shirts" and "awful coffee," noting he was "relentlessly cheerful and positive."
His daughter Amy described her father as "incredibly modest and generous," while volunteer group Bloodrun EVS honored him as "a comforting voice to many," stating, "Thank you for your service."
Beyond traffic reporting, Llewellyn co-hosted a Sunday morning gardening show and performed music, with breakfast host Amy Oakden saying the station would "never ever forget his iconic voice.
