BBC confirms actors for new Beatles TV series
The six-part series follows the band’s rise from teenage musicians to global stardom, with Klaus Voormann serving as consultant.
Filming has officially begun in Hamburg, Munich, and Liverpool for Hamburg Days, a six-part BBC drama series chronicling The Beatles' early years in the German city.
Based on the autobiography of German artist Klaus Voormann, the series depicts the band's 1960s residency in Hamburg's St. Pauli red-light district where they honed their craft.
Showrunner Christian Schwochow and head writer Jamie Carragher lead the production, with Rhys Mannion starring as John Lennon and Ellis Murphy as Paul McCartney.
The BBC series enters production alongside Sam Mendes's separate four-film Beatles project; producer Andrew Eaton called the BBC effort the "David to their Goliath."
Music producer David Holmes is curating the soundtrack for the series, which is expected to premiere in 2028, the same month as Mendes's four biopics.
